Presentation: Early flying boats and the Genius of Glenn Curtiss

By Jim Lally

We enjoyed something different for this season’s inaugural meeting.  PCB co-founder Mr. Jim Lally is an early flight enthusiast and ardent contributor to the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY.  Jim entertained us with stories, photos and some fascinating videos about the activities and on-going restorative work at the Glenn H. Curtis Museum in Hammondsport, NY.  Highlighted was the construction and recent first flight of a reproduction of the America, an early flying boat.  Construction of the America’s wood fuselage, building and testing engines and propellers was featured, along with information about other early flying boats.

W learned some of the technical aspects of early aircraft and about NY native son Glenn Curtis, one of most prolific aviation technology developers ever.
