About the Vibration Institute
The Vibration Institute is a not-for-profit organization dedicated
to the exchange of practical vibration information on machines and
structures. The scope of the Institute's activities also includes
nonintrusive condition monitoring technologies. The Institute, which
was established in 1972, has more than 3,000 members, 37 chapters,
and a technology division -- the Society for Machinery Failure
Prevention Technology (MFPT). The Institute's program consists of an
annual National Technical Training Symposium (former Annual
Meeting), short courses, and an internationally recognized
certification program for assessing individual levels of expertise
in machinery vibrations. The Vibration Institute's Certification
Program follows the International Standards Organization standard,
ISO 18436, Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics of
Machines - Requirements for Training and Certification of Personnel
- Part 2: Vibration Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics.
The Institute publishes Vibrations magazine and Proceedings
of its National Technical Training Symposium.

About the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter
The Hudson-Mohawk chapter was first organized in the early1990's.
Although several meetings were held in its early days, the chapter could not
maintain enough interest to be self-sustaining. In late August 1995 a
re-organizational meeting was held. This was followed by a series of
bi-monthly meetings with technical presentations and sandwich buffet dinner
through spring 1996. This meeting format and "season" continues today.
In May 1997 the Chapter sponsored its first Vendors' Night, with 9 exhibitors and 35 attendees. In 2001 this annual after work event was moved to March and in 2002 was reconfigured to Vibo-Rama - a 1/2 day event combining exhibits and technical presentations. Vibo-Rama quickly grew to nearly 15-20 exhibitors and 75-100 attendees, and became the annual highlight of our season. In 2005 and 06 Vibo-Rama was combined into the Tech Valley Engineering Symposium, a full day event co-sponsored with other regional engineering societies. In 2007 we reestablished Vibo-Rama as an independent event. In the fall and spring the chapter proctors the Institute's Certification exams, and offers associated focused review short courses for these exams when there is sufficient interest.
